Night 1. Introduction - pairs etc

What do they expect from the course.

Discuss care before pregnancy (would need leaflets/handouts)

Conception to birth – power point

Break – tea/biscuits opportunity for parents to socialise

Introduction to play and areas of development – games we played as children versus games children play today make links with areas of development (handout)

Night 2

Caring for your new baby, feeding utensils, clothes – cot death etc.

Break - tea/biscuits opportunity for parents to socialise

Play and the importance of play

Workshop around messy play – need resources sand/water.

Night three

Nutrition for babies and young children – Breast feeding – Leaflets

Food pyramid and discuss around healthy snacks etc.

Break - tea/biscuits opportunity for parents to socialise

Treasure basket – small world play and the benefits for babies and young children

Tummy time discussion – leaflets/handouts

Night four

Behaviour scenarios and discussion on our expectation and understanding of very young children and consideration as to why children behave/misbehave?

Break - tea/biscuits opportunity for parents to socialise

Paint/mark making workshop with hands on exploration. - handouts

Night five

Childhood illnesses vaccinations etc.

Break - tea/biscuits opportunity for parents to socialise

Junk art and loose parts play – hands on with resources such as glue, scissors etc.

Night six

Choosing childcare – childminders – crèche etc – handout/ leaflets

Break - tea/biscuits opportunity for parents to socialise

Table top toys – resources

Night seven –

Preschool/ Montessori, high scope and play based preschool information/Handouts

Break - tea/biscuits opportunity for parents to socialise

Nature workshop – resources

Night eight

Indoor / outdoor some scenarios around risky play - parks, playground safety, back garden (resources)

Break tea/biscuits opportunity for parents to socialise

Aistear a new way of thinking about children’s learning and development
